Science at its best
It’s fall, which gives me a chance to reference one of my favorite urban legends: that you can balance an egg on its end on the vernal or autumnal equinox, and only on the equinox.
This of course, leads me to one of my favorite bored-scientist pages, an oldie from the golden age of the Web, STANDING AN EGG ON END ON THE EQUINOX – AN EXPERIMENT. Four months of careful experimenting yielded this result: you can balance an egg on any day, except of course when you can’t.
