Call the schoolmaster
Amazon’s new mp3 download site is one of the best things ever. It’ll position itself quite comfortably as a competitor to iTunes within months. Cheaper downloads, high-quality mp3 format without any DRM nonsense, cheap whole albums… what’s not to like? The biggest problem: not every record label is playing along yet. But they’ll cave in. It’s just a matter of time.
Meanwhile, now’s the time to take advantage of Amazon’s standardized pricing, which seems to work in favor of the downloader in some cases. Check out this whole-album download of The Wall by Pink Floyd. $8.99! For a double album! Legal! If you’re interested in Pink Floyd but not enough of a fan to pay a high price for the album, take the plunge now before Amazon realizes they could be charging more.
