Cake or death?

Haven’t felt much like reading for awhile. The exams took the desire out of me. So, either I could buckle down and make myself read, or I could mess around with other crap. It’s summer, so I’ve chosen the latter.

I recently spent some quality time at TV Links, checking out some shows that I haven’t kept up on — specifically, The Sopranos’ sixth season, The Wire, Heroes and The Unit. And I’ve been watching a few oldies, too: the obscure Strange Luck, which starred D.B. Sweeney and only ran for a season; Mystery Science Theater 3000, many episodes of which aren’t easy to find on DVD; Twin Peaks; and, of course, The X-Files.

As I was watching the episode of The Riches I missed this season, I decided that Eddie Izzard (who plays Doug Rich) is a funny man, and resolved to watch every clip I could find on YouTube from Izzard’s stand-up DVDs. As a result of such thorough research, I can make a few recommendations, in order of preference:

He’s got earlier ones (Live at the Ambassadors and Unrepeatable) and later ones (Circle and Sexie), but the three above are the ones to check out first. The weakest is probably Sexie, in which he never quite seems to build a rapport with the crowd.
