In response to a blog post on “25 things that only happen in the movies,” the TV Squad blog has put together its own list of “14 things that only happen on TV.” Together, these form quite an impressive set of observations:
- No one ever gets out of a car and locks it – even on the meanest streets.
- You will survive any battle in any war UNLESS you show someone a picture of your sweetheart back home.
- When paying for a taxi, don’t look at your wallet as you take out a note. Just grab one out at random and hand it over. It will always be the exact fare.
- On TV and in movies when people make a date with each other they just say “So, Friday it is” and walk away! They psychically know the time and place and everything!
- Getaway cars never start first go. But all cop cars do. (They will also slide to a dramatic stop in the midst of a crime scene).
Hint: Just about every one of these has happened during Law & Order’s 18-year run.

here’s another (that drives me crazy): no one *actually* drinks anything.
do they really think it’s believable that that coffee cup — with its weightless airy demeanor — contains anything at all? even the best actors are caught acting (badly) with this prop decision.
god love the French; just watched _Cache_, in which Daniel Autiel appears to actually put money in a coffee vending machine at a 7-11-type store (common in Europe) and drinks actual coffee (well, it appears to be a brown fluid) from the cup. voila!

Hmm, I don’t think I’d ever noticed that one. I wonder if it’s because they’re doing multiple takes, so the coffee’s always getting cold and nasty. Even so, it shouldn’t be too hard to capture a sip or two.
