A lesson in how old media can help new media…

From its start in October until just recently, our internet radio station has attracted a handful of listeners every day. Traffic is fairly steady, with a little growth. But early this month, our traffic jumped by 500% and listeners started getting shut out. WTF?

Turns out the culprit was a tiny note in the Lewis & Clark College student newspaper, the Pioneer Log (ha!), which praised DJ Anna’s techno playlist (Anna is a former Pioneer herself):

Our favorite internet radio show at the moment? Beaver State’s off-hours show, which provides a seamless hour of listenable ’90s electronica without subjecting us to the excesses of the Chemical Brothers, the Prodigy and other platinum-pop wannabes.

Uh, thanks, Pioneer Log! I don’t have the heart to tell you that every song on that playlist came from a platinum-selling artist, except for the last two.
