Haven’t seriously blogged for awhile, due to a busy semester’s end and a crappy internet connection. Now that both of those issues are taken care of, I hope to make up for lost time. Off we go.
June 1995 marks the 10th anniversary of the purchase of my first ever compact disc. Due to a twist of fate (more on that later), that disc turned out to be Belly’s King, one of the most overlooked and underrated albums of the 1990s alt-rock movement. Ten years and 700 discs later, it’s still one of my favorites. And Tanya Donelly (who led Belly, sang in Throwing Muses and the Breeders, and currently enjoys a low-key solo career) continues to be an important musical inspiration in my simple little life.
As a way of celebrating this anniversary, I’m going to attempt to use a relevant Donelly-authored line in the subject header of each of my posts during the month of June. Let’s see if I can do this without getting tedious or having to stretch too much. I’m starting 45 minutes early—thus the line above from the Lovesongs for Underdogs track, “Bum.”
